Ringer's Solution, aCSF Composition, Recipe

The followings are recipe for the perfusate of microdialysis Eicom recommends. Do not use any buffer solutions as salts may precipitate and clog the probes.

 

Ringer's Solution

8.6 g NaCl ,  250 mg CaCl2, 300 mg KCl  in 1 liter H2O


aCSF (artificial cerebro-spinal fluid)

147 mM (8.5 g) NaCl, 2.8 mM (208 mg) KCl, 1.2 mM CaCl2, 1.2 mM MgCl2

 

Can I use a buffer solution for microdialysis perfusate? No.

The salts in the buffered solution can precipitate out of solution and clog the tubing.  It is best to use the aCSF or Ringers solutions described above.
